Counselling provides a safe, confidential and supportive place to explore and clarify thoughts and feelings. Counselling can be helpful when experiencing distressing life events such as our own or another’s poor health, bereavement, relationship difficulties, isolation, anxiety, low self-esteem etc.
Our Counselling is person-centred, confidential. Sessions are normally weekly for one hour, but this can vary to meet individual need. The number of sessions can also vary depending on what people want to explore and this is discussed as counselling progresses. There are no fees for people attending the Dove Centre.
An initial meeting with a client would start with consultation process where the following would be discussed:
Because everyone’s body responds differently, sessions start gently and for limited periods of time….so the client and therapist can gauge what best suits the client’s present circumstances. This can then be built up as the client and therapist progress.
In the early stages, sessions will be followed up by a telephone call from the therapist within 24-48 hours, to enable the therapist to get feedback on the session, and to make any adaptations to future sessions.
The focus of Gentle Touch therapy is very much on the client having control of the process. However, the therapist will advise if the client wants to “travel too fast, too soon”!!
